ashes to ashes, fun to funky...

Yesterday I turned an old glass stand into one of my all time favorite terrariums. You might remember the stand containing a tchotchke of a squirrel wearing a bowtie when I posted a picture of it in January.

As a part of a challenge to myself for the month of April, I have so far been successful in not going to the art store. It's been almost two weeks since my last visit to Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or Joann's because my focus is on using what I have instead of accumulating more supplies.

This is the finished product:

My mom collected glass figurines when she was little & gave them to me not too long ago. That's where the rabbit and bird came from. The mushroom was the champagne cork from our wedding champagne, which I painted in December.

I have this love for baby pinecones. When I find ones with sticks still attached, I give them a good home. Otherwise, I just move them out of the road so they don't get hurt. The faux eucalyptus-type thing was left over from the fake flowers that I got for the Day of the Dead wreath back in October. Good thing I saved it!

This is the complete finished terrarium. There was a lot of empty space at the top, so I cut a pennant banner and used tweezers to put it in there.

I hope you find it as inspiring as I do!
