Spotlight: Gonkar Gyatso

Gonkar Gyatso is a Tibetan artist who currently works between New York and London. His artwork has a strong social commentary that pulls upon Pop Art. Because of this, he is considered a political artist.

His My Identity series shows Gyatso in four different settings and as four different people; representing four different periods of the artist's life.

His modern buddhas are made from logos and magazine images, stickers, and other various media [you can get a good view of his process here]. They are eye-catching and busy and blend the superficial with the spiritual.

Gyatso has also created sculptural clothing. This stuff is weird!

You can learn more about Gonkar Gyatso at his website.
