Spotlight: Stephanie Hilvitz

Stephanie Hilvitz is one of my new favorite artists! I found her while googling Dia de los Muertos Loteria cards and let me tell you- this website is a gem! [I'll post it at the end of this post for y'all]

Hilvitz is inspired by milagros, amulets, and talismans [just like me!]. She blurs racial and ethnic borders by combining elements and appropriating symbols from many cultures. In any work, I can see at least three different cultures. When you look at her work, how many can you identify?

While her work employs mixed media methods, she calls her process "ethnic merging". Not only does she create beautiful, original artworks, but she is an avid crafter! She creates terrificly inspiring Dia de los Muertos decorations and altars. She also makes all sorts of goodies out of oilcloth. Can this woman adopt me?! Check out her wonderful work-

You can learn more about Stephanie Hilvitz at her blog or her website. All the best!
